Ike Ekweremadu: Seun Kuti criticises Obasanjo for his plea for mercy

Grammy-nominated afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has criticised former president Olusegun Obasanjo over a letter the former deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu and his wife sent to the British court that found them guilty of organ trafficking.

The former president urged with the UK court to temper justice with mercy over the conviction of former Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, in a letter dated April 3 and sent to The Chief Clerk, the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, London.

Seun Kuti responded by chastising the former head of state for not making a comparable gesture for young Nigerians imprisoned.

On Thursday, he made a statement during an Instagram live session.

"Obasanjo did not write [a] letter on behalf of the many young Nigerians in prison, even for non-violent offences," the speaker claimed. "Rather, he wrote [a] letter for Ike Ekweremadu who wants to take another person's organ and end another person's life for his daughter."
