Police in Imo detain a suspected well-known armed robber


Igbonagwam Osinachi, 23, of Umuchoke Obazu Mbeiri Mbaitoli LGA, a known armed robbery suspect, has been detained by tactical team members of the Imo State Command.


This was said in a statement made on Tuesday in Owerri by ASP Henry Okoye, the police public relations officer.

"Acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde PSC(+) to continuously mop up illicit firearms and stem down the tide of Insecurity in the State, operatives of the Command's tactical team on credible intelligence, arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect named Igbonagwam Osinachi'm' 32yrs of Umuchoke Obazu Mbeiri Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State. 

Throughout the course of the inquiry, the suspect admitted to the crimes he and his gang colleagues who were still at large had committed, disclosing their identities and the location of their criminal hideout at the Nworie River Bank, Owerri, coastal land.


Based on his admissions, the curious and determined operators conducted a thorough search of the hiding place and found three pistols built locally and one live round that they had been using to carry out their malicious actions in the state.

The pursuit of other gang members who are still at large is the focus of concerted efforts. A thorough investigation will be finished before the suspect(s) are arraigned in court.

 While praising the operator for a job well done, the CP advised them to keep up the pace until all criminally inclined elements were expelled from the state in order to stem the flow of insecurity.
