from Abuja, Johnbosco Agbakwuru

Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, is currently briefing the Federal Executive Council, or FEC, which is being led by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba, is also scheduled to brief the Council on how the police are getting ready for the next general elections in the nation, beginning with the presidential election on February 25.

But, the cabinet meeting didn't begin until around 9:58 a.m., and the IGP hadn't yet arrived in the Council Chamber where the meeting was being held.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Air Commodore Dan Suleiman, (ret. ), a former minister of special responsibilities under General Yakubu Gowon, before Yakubu informed the council.

Between July 1975 and March 1976, he served as a member of General Murtala Muhammed's Supreme Military Council in Nigeria. From March 1976 to July 1978, he served as the military governor of Plateau State, which had been formed from a portion of the former Benue Plateau State.
