Police charge a lady with accusing the governor of Akwa Ibom of adultery



Blessing Edet, a woman from Abuja, has been charged with defaming Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel before the Federal High Court.


The Nigeria Police charged the 37-year-old lady with six counts, and she entered a not guilty plea.

The accusation stated that Blessing Edet, 37, of No. 18 Buchanan Crescent Wuse II, Abuja, had sent Facebook messages with the subject line "names of married women/politicians' wives sleeping with Governor Emmanuel" on or before April 11, 2020.


Moreover, she was charged with sending a Facebook message with the subject line "Well, we are going filthy. The final table will now be broken, so pay attention.

The police said that Dr. Glory Edet, the honorable commissioner for women's affairs and agriculture, had deposed the governor's actual wife to become Akwa Ibom's first lady.

Blessing was granted bail in the amount of N500,000 with one surety in the same amount by the presiding court, Justice Ahmed Mohammed.

Moreover, Edet was given the option of being detained at Suleja Correctional Center pending the completion of her bail conditions or depositing her passport with the court registry.

But, Justice Ahmed postponed the case's trial until May 10.
