Enugu: AA disapproves of the outcome and refers PDP's Peter Mbah to court

The Peoples Democratic Party's Peter Mbah was declared the victor of the March 18 election, but the Action Alliance, or AA, has petitioned the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to overturn that decision.

On April 12, 2023, the Tribunal acknowledged receipt of a copy of the AA's Petition.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, also known as INEC, Mbah, and the PDP, who are the first, second, and third defendants, respectively, are joined as defendants.

The AA is asking the Tribunal to declare Mbah's victory invalid on the grounds that the Electoral Act and other pertinent regulations were not followed in the lawsuit that it filed through its attorney, John C. Nwobodo.

The petition was apparently submitted after the AA in Enugu State analysed the entire election process and noticed that Mbah was proclaimed the winner by the INEC despite clear anomalies. Mr. Ogbonna Festus Okafor, Chairman of the AA in Enugu State, verified to journalists that this was the case.

AA further claimed that Mbah was ineligible to run for office because she had provided the INEC with a dubious National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, certificate.

Recall that Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, a member of the Labour Party, also petitioned the Tribunal to contest Mbah's election.
