Breaking: 10 items you should be aware of this Sunday morning

 

1. The Trade Union Congress and the Nigerian Labour Congress have expressed conditional support for eliminating the fuel subsidy. The two labour organisations declared that they would only permit the elimination of fuel subsidies if Bola Tinubu's upcoming administration took steps to repair and revitalise government refineries around the nation and permitted modular refineries.


2. According to the Police in Abia Command, five members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) died as a result of an attack on their men by some IPOB members. Geoffrey Ogbonna, the PRO for the Command, made the claim in a statement on behalf of Mr. Mustapha Bala, the Police Commissioner. 

3. DSS agents detained Fredrick Nwajagu, the Eze Igbo of Lagos' Ajao Estate, yesterday after he vowed to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group that has been outlawed, to Lagos in order to protect Igbo property there.


4. Abba Kabir Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gida, the incoming governor of Kano State, has asked creditors to get his approval before extending any loans to the Abdullahi Ganduje administration. A few hours after Ganduje challenged him over a public advice on government lands, the new governor issued the order. 

5. Arome Danjuma, a key suspect in the viral video in which he allegedly ambushed and stripped a girl naked, has been detained by the Kogi State Police Command. According to reports, Danjuma and his friend, who is still at large, committed the heinous act in the Kogi hamlet of Achigili, near Abocho, in the Dekina Local Government Area.


6. Three lawyers who allegedly filed petitions on behalf of the All Progressives Congress at the election petition tribunal in Port Harcourt were detained by police. According to reports, the attorneys are drafting lawsuits contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission's findings for the just completed governorship election in Rivers State. 

7. On Friday, Amotekun Corps, a southwest security organisation, thwarted a carjacking attempt on the Akure-Ilesa Expressway and recovered an oil-filled vehicle. Retired Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, commander of the corps in Osun, told newsmen in Osogbo on Saturday that the robbers attacked cars along the Ileki/Osu axis of the Ilesha-Akure Road for about an hour.


8. On Friday evening, gunmen in Taraba State's Garin Baka village went on the rampage and killed over 15 people. Mr. Yakubu Garba, a devastated villager, informed reporters that the gunmen entered the local mosque while prayers were taking place and began firing erratically, killing over 15 people. 

9. Following the election of Bola Tinubu as president, the Arewa Consultative Forum, or ACF, has warned those pushing for an interim national government to stop. Mohammed Ghali-Alaaya, the chairman of the ACF chapter in Kwara State, declared that anyone pushing for an interim administration need to be detained and tried for treason.


10. Anthony Joshua, a British-Nigerian fighter, has resumed his winning ways after a string of defeats by defeating Jermaine Franklin. For the first time since his consecutive losses against Oleksandr Usyk, a Ukrainian military hero, AJ entered the ring.
