Akon disputes accusations that he criticised Elon Musk for charging for Twitter blue

Akon, a Senegalese-American singer, denied criticising Twitter CEO Elon Musk for raising the cost of the blue verification badges used by the microblogging site.

In a since-deleted tweet, the "Oh Africa" singer claimed that Elon Musk was "forcing" people to pay for the Twitter verification, which was instituted to shield accounts from fraudulent ones. The singer also insisted that he wouldn't pay for the new Twitter blue subscription.

Twitter used to urge bands to stay on because of the lack of traffic. On April 1, 2023, a tweet from the musician's verified account said, "They invented a verification procedure to safeguard accounts from take ones, and now @elonmusk is taking it away and asking us to pay- FWIW, I'm ain't paying shit for something we helped establish.

Akon, however, denied making the comments in a subsequent tweet that was published on Tuesday [today], asserting that his account had been hacked.

"My account was just hacked," he wrote. This tweet wasn't sent by me. Please respect my privacy and refrain from posting any personal commentary on my profile, whoever you are.

Remember that Twitter revealed intentions to charge $19.99 for the new Twitter Blue subscription in November 2022?

One of the business's most divisive initiatives since Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on April 14, 2022, is the blue subscription.
