Naira swap necessary ‘pain’ to curb corruption, grow Nigeria’s economy – FG

The current suffering being experienced by Nigerians due to the redesign of the new naira note has been portrayed by the Federal Government as required "pain" to fight chronic corruption and expand the country's economy.

This was said on Thursday at the weekly ministerial briefing held at the State House in Abuja by the minister of finance, budget, and national planning, Zainab Ahmed.

The minister acknowledged that the government is worried but characterized the suffering as momentary.

President Muhammadu Buhari, according to Ahmed, is dissatisfied with the situation, but he also compared it to a sore that needs to be bandaged.

She claims that the harsh realities people are experiencing as a result of the swap are only temporary and a little price to pay for the growth of the country's economy.

The new strategy is necessary to stop corruption, the finance minister said, and it has had some positive effects, as seen by the enormous amount of idle money that has been collected.
