After two murders, there is unrest in the Bayelsa community over N50

In Yenizue-Epie community of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, a commercial tricycle rider (also known as Keke NAPEP) who fatally stabbed a young person was lynched on Wednesday night.

The young man, Douglas Joseph, 30, was a father of three and a local of the neighbourhood.

One of the witnesses claimed to have seen the disagreement between the Keke rider and Joseph while they were outdoors near the Saptex crossroads in Yenizue-Epie.

The Keke rider insisted on charging him N150 despite the fact that he claimed to be travelling from the Opolo community to Kpansia, which was meant to cost N100.

We witnessed the Keke rider pull out a dagger as we were separating them. We believed it was done merely to frighten children. However, the young man was wounded while sitting on his lap and collapsed to the ground. The Keke rider was prevented from escaping by others. Sadly, his injured victim passed away. The Keke rider was killed, and a mob attacked him with various objects before they lynched him.

The regrettable murder of a young member of the community by a tricycle rider prompted the Bayelsa State Police Command to respond to the tragedy by deploying its Anti Riot Squad to restore order to Kpansia and its surroundings.
