Officer who slapped a citizen in Rivers is demoted by the police

The police officers who assaulted a bystander on a road in Emouha, Rivers State, have been demoted by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

After receiving complaints and learning of video footage that was widely shared on social media on April 9, the security agency took action.

The police officer and his coworkers were detained last week on charges of assault, dishonourable behaviour, and impoliteness towards members of the public.

Adejoh Siaka has been demoted from Inspector to Sergeant following an orderly room trial by the Force Provost Marshal.

Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari, who was on the scene but failed to dissuade Siaka, was disciplined, according to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi.

At the end of the proceedings, Inspector Friday Obaka, who had been found to be missing from the scene of the conflict, received an unconditional release.

According to Adejobi, the police officers will be transferred from Rivers State to other Commands and Formations to carry out their police work.

Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, has given the officers and members of the Force the responsibility to exercise diligence, uphold professional policing standards, and protect human rights.
