Obe advises Tinubu not to disparage the Presidential Power Initiative

Ondo State's Commissioner of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Razaq Obe, has pleaded with Bola Ahmed Tinubu's new administration to maintain the Presidential Power programme.

In an interview given on Thursday at the recently finished Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja, he made this decision.

He asserts that the Federal Government must keep its commitment to enhancing the nation's power sector.

He stated that implementing the PPI would have a significant influence on Nigeria's power sector.

If the programme is properly carried out, according to Obe, the nation's electricity capacity will expand from 4 gigawatts to 25 gigawatts.

We want to encourage the future government to make sure that the 25 gigawatts promised by this government is given to Nigerians by 2025. The presidential power project is one of this government's most effective achievements.

"We are pleased to see the transformers arriving in Nigeria from Germany and to witness them being placed at the various substations. We are pleading with the federal government to see that this is accomplished. A quantum leap for our nation, it would increase Nigeria's operational power from 4 gigawatts to 25 gigawatts. We request the Federal Government to remain steadfast.

The NIES for this year, with the topic "Global Perspectives for a Sustainable Energy Future," began on April 16 and ran through April 20, 2023.

The Federal Executive Council authorised the PPI, a £63 million agreement between the Federal Government and Siemens to increase Nigeria's electricity capacity, in December 2021.
