Just in: Enang loses the Akwa Ibom governorship when the Supreme Court upholds Udofia as the APC candidate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has nominated Akan Udofia to run for governor of Akwa Ibom State, and the Supreme Court has supported that decision.

Judge Kudirat Kekere-Ekun issued the unanimous decision in the case with the case number SC/CV/158/2023 on Tuesday.

The court dismissed Ita Enang's appeal and affirmed the Court of Appeal's decision from January 19th confirming Udofia's nomination.

It was decided that Udofia is an APC member who obtained the necessary party waiver in order to participate in the governorship primary elections on May 26.

In addition, the Supreme Court declared that the lower court erred in holding that political parties did not have the ability to give waivers to their members.

Enang's appeal, which was seen to be merely an academic exercise, was consequently rejected for lack of merit.

The ruling puts to rest the controversy surrounding Udofia's selection as the APC's nominee for Saturday's governorship election.
