A midnight fire on an EEDC site leaves the Anambra government building, Unizik, and others in the dark

Awka, the capital of Anambra State, is currently without power as a result of a fire that broke out at midnight in an EEDC transmission station.

Easter may well be observed in darkness in the impacted districts, which include the Nnamdi Azikiwe University and the Anambra State government building, among many other locations.

This information was revealed in a press statement that our correspondent received from Mr. Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC.

Ezeh promised customers that they will improve services but did not specify when power would be restored to the affected areas.

"EEDC desires to advise her esteemed Anambra State customers that the current disruption of supply being felt in some areas of the state is a result of a fire outbreak at the Agu-Awka TCN Station," Eze added.

Agu-Awka Injection Substation lost power as a result of the incident, which happened at 12:10 am on April 6, 2023. This cut off power to all of our 11KV outgoing feeders, including UNIZIK 11KV, Awka Industrial 11KV, Ifite 11KV, and Amansea 11KV.

We are prepared to resume supply as soon as the issue is fixed, and the TCN engineers are already hard at work.

UniZik, Bryan, Juhel, Millenium areas, Umuayom, Umunnoke, Umuoranma, Umuokpu, Amachala, Abagana, Umudiaba, Agbana, Umunna moke, Amudo, and Enu-Ifite were among the regions he identified as being affected.

Additional areas without electricity include Egbeagu, Umuokpara, Orede, Holy Family, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Ugbene, Orba Ofemmiri, Abagana-Ifite, GRA, Agu Awka, back of UniZik Hostel along Amansea Ifite road, and others.

Ezeh promised customers that they will improve services but did not specify when power would be restored to the affected areas.
