Elections: The Army orders its soldiers to mercilessly combat illicit elements

Brigadier General S. Ahmed, the commander of Sector 1 Joint Task Force and 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, North West Operation Hadarin Daji, has urged security organizations in Zamfara State to take decisive action against anyone attempting to impede the smooth conduct of the governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

He made this accusation while speaking to security agency personnel in the Zamfara state at the Headquarters 1 Brigade Complex in Gusau, shortly after a joint military-and-sister security agency show of force was held in the city.

According to Ahmed, the use of force was necessary to frighten away criminal groups attempting to sabotage the elections and restrict their freedom of movement.

This information was provided in a news release that Captain Yahaya Arama Ibrahim, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Brigade, signed.

Ahmed reportedly said in the statement that the exercise will increase voter trust and dispel concerns about intimidation and harassment before, during, and after the elections.

He challenged the officers and men to provide sufficient protection for members of the Youth Service Corps, INEC staff, and other stakeholders on election duty. He urged the security agencies to do their best to ensure they provided a conducive atmosphere for a violent free election.

Also, he stated that state election saboteurs would not be accepted.

The commander pleaded with personnel from every security agency to cooperate in order to guarantee that the overarching objective is met during the election.
