2023 Presidential Election: INEC Promises to Punish Violators

Following the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, announced that it will discipline ad hoc workers or collation personnel who may have been discovered to have acted improperly.

This was announced by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, during a gathering of RECs on Saturday in Abuja.

He claims that it will start by not supporting individuals who committed misconduct in the governorship vote on Saturday.

All employees who are found to have been careless, including Collation and Returning Officers, must not participate in upcoming elections, whether they are regular or ad hoc officials.

When there is established prima facie proof of malfeasance, "RECs must likewise quickly begin disciplinary action," Yakubu added.

Yakubu also stressed to the RECs the significance of the electoral body's evaluation of Saturday's election results.
